Twelve-tone Equal Temperament abbreviated as 12-TET is the dominant phonetic system of nowadays music. It divides an octave into 12 parts. That is 12 semitones. The persons who did the exact calculations of 12-TET were Zhu Zaiyu from the Ming dynasty and Simon Stevin from Belgium. They finished the work independently in 1584 and 1585.
Till now, all digital audio workstations including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Studio One, FL Studio, and so on are only embedded with the 12-TET system. However, in Ableton Live you can access other tuning systems simply by a plugin called Micro Tuner. It can transfer your MIDI signal in the way you want and send it to the instrument. This means you can write songs out of 12-TET in modern daws, and you can use the specific system you want to compose easily if you have the file for it.
